A substantial body of research demonstrates that when the transition to kindergarten is done well, an educational foundation is laid that can impact life-long learning. The transition to kindergarten is a major part of early childhood education. Children are often required to switch environments, and some may find this transition from home or a preschool-based program into a traditional school setting overwhelming, scary and/or exciting.

In this class we will cover the three major components to make this transition as smooth as possible:

• Family involvement- The most important indicator for academic and social/emotional development
• School involvement- Activities related to kindergarten transition
• Community involvement- Doctors, counselors, school nurse, etc.

In addition, we will discuss some of the excitements and challenges that we face with the rigorous education system.  We will discuss what transition means and what a parent can do to make that transition easier. A Q&A will be at the end of the class. This class is estimated 1-2 hours long.
